Sydney here! I hope you had a fun-filled and safe holiday weekend.
I don’t know about you, but as I celebrated, I couldn’t stop thinking about the families with an empty chair at the table or an extra set of floaties at the pool that were once occupied by their child.
I hope you’ll join me in praying for the bald beauties who watched fireworks through the hospital window and not take a second you have with your family for granted!
We are painfully aware that July 4th will be remembered as the worst day in the lives of 43 children and their families as they found out they have cancer, and that is unacceptable.
A cure is not an option, friend. It’s time for us to buckle down and find it!
The past few weeks we’ve had so many step up to the plate and support pediatric cancer research on a monthly level, which is incredible!! We are beyond grateful for each of you that have decided to invest your resources in OHOH.
It may feel that your contribution is a drop in the bucket, especially with something as monstrous as pediatric cancer and as abstract as research. How could your ‘small’ donation actually ‘move the mark’? How do you know that your dollar is going towards something that will actually help these kids?
Here are a few things about OHOH that I think you should know:
We prioritize time. Gas cards and casseroles are wonderful ways to support families battling this horrific disease, but OHOH wants to invest in the most precious gift of all, time. Though we cannot literally give the gift of time, we believe in funding research that may provide that time, whether length, quality, or both.
We support locally. Kayla’s primary place of treatment was Children’s of Alabama, therefore Children’s of Alabama, and the fighters there, will always be a priority for us.
We invest nationally. We partner with a foundation out of Atlanta that has a board of over 50 medical advisors that ensure we are funding the most promising peer-reviewed projects across the country. We believe a cure found anywhere helps children everywhere.
Someone years ago invested in research for treatments and medications that are saving lives each and everyday in 2020. You can be that someone for children years from now.
The reality is that the best way to make sure your ‘small’ donation can move the mark is by combining it with hundreds of your best friends. We need to build an army to fight against this horrific disease, and we can’t do it without you.
What do you say, friend? Will you join this army? Will you recruit more soldiers? 43 children are counting on you today.
Until there’s a cure,
Sydney Hurley, Executive Director
Did you Run For Their Lives?
I am mailing and delivering all remaining swag (t-shirts and medals) this week!
If you live out-of-town, I’ll drop yours in the mail. If you’re local, I’ll swing by and drop your swag at the address you used to register for the race.

Donor of the Month
Kristin Walton
“I give because I believe that no family should have to experience cancer. I won’t stop giving until no one has to wonder if their loved one will make it through another risky surgery, fear how sick the treatment will make them this round, worry about receiving a bad report after scans or any of the other terrible things that cancer families live out on a day to day basis.
These families deserve more than that. By donating to OHOH, I know that more research is able to be conducted so that a cure can be found and no family will ever have to hear the word “cancer’ again.”
